What is Store Protect?
Store Protect is an extension to our standard Self Storage Agreement that allows Dickens Self Storage to accept liability for loss of or damage to your stored belongings in certain circumstances.
Unlike many storage providers who require you to arrange separate insurance or purchase additional protection, Store Protect is included free with your storage.
For most items, liability is accepted on a new replacement basis, meaning the value used is based on the cost of replacing your belongings with equivalent new items.
It's one more way we make storing with Dickens Self Storage simple, transparent and stress-free.

**Store Protect has some exclusions and different valuation methods for certain items, including jewellery, watches, furs, fine art, wines, beers and some electrical goods. It is not available for food or other perishable items, or motor vehicles stored outside a storage unit.

How Store Protect works
Getting started couldn't be simpler
Step 1
Estimate Your Replacement Value
Tell us the Maximum Replacement Value of everything you'll be storing.
This should represent the total cost of replacing all your belongings as new (with some exceptions for items such as antiques, vehicles and documents).
Step 2
We include Store Protect
Once you've declared your Maximum Replacement Value, Store Protect becomes part of your storage agreement at no additional cost.
Step 3
Update Your Value if Things Change
If you add more belongings during your storage period, simply let us know so your declared Maximum Replacement Value remains accurate.
Keeping this figure up to date helps ensure the protection available reflects the value of everything you're storing.
Understanding Maximum Replacement Value (MRV)

Your Maximum Replacement Value should reflect the total current cost of replacing everything you're storing.
For most household and business items, this means the cost of buying equivalent new replacements today.
Some items are valued differently:
Clothing and household linen take account of age and condition.
Antiques and works of art are based on their current market value.
Motor vehicles are valued according to age, condition and market value.
Documents are valued on the cost of replacing or reproducing them, rather than the value of the information they contain.
If you're unsure how to calculate your Maximum Replacement Value when it comes to storing your items, our team will be happy to help.

It's important that your declared Maximum Replacement Value accurately reflects everything you're storing. If the value declared is lower than the true replacement value of your belongings, any liability accepted under Store Protect may be reduced proportionately.
Example
Imagine you're storing belongings with a total replacement value of £10,000, but you've declared a Maximum Replacement Value of £5,000.
If items worth £3,000 were lost or damaged in circumstances covered by Store Protect, the amount payable would be reduced by 50%, resulting in liability of £1,500.
Keeping your declared value up to date ensures your Store Protect reflects the full value of your stored belongings.
