PRIVACY POLICY
We take your privacy very seriously and we ask that you read this privacy policy carefully as it contains important information on who we are, how and why we collect, store, use and share personal information, your rights in relation to your personal information and how to contact us in the event you have a complaint.
WHO WE ARE
Dickens Self Storage Limited (“we”, “us”) is the operator of the website www.dickensselfstorage.co.uk. We are responsible as ‘controller’ for the personal information we collect about you, and we are regulated under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. The person responsible for how we handle personal information is Andy Rose, admin@dickensselfstorage.co.uk.
THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND USE
We collect personal information when you provide it to us, such as your name, postal address, email address, phone numbers, date of birth, payment details and proof of ID. Occasionally we may receive information about you from other sources, such as credit reference agencies.
If you give us details of someone else, such as an alternate contact, you confirm that they have agreed to this.
We will only ask for sensitive personal information (for example, about your health) if we need it for a specific reason, and only with your explicit consent.
We do not knowingly collect personal data relating to children under the age of 18.
If you apply for a job with us or work for us, we will collect contact details, financial and payment details, qualifications, NI number and CV, and use them to process your application and manage your employment.
HOW AND WHEN DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM YOU?
We gather information from you face to face at our site, over the telephone, by email and through our website (for example when you request a quote or use live chat).
If you visit our storage facility, personal data is collected by our CCTV and door entry systems. We keep CCTV footage for 30 days and door entry records for 2 years, unless we need them for longer to deal with an incident.
Use of cookies
Our website uses cookies. We only set non-essential cookies (such as analytics, session replay and advertising cookies) if you accept them in our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time. We use Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics to see how visitors use our website and to improve it, and tools managed through Google Tag Manager to advertise our services. For further information, please see our Cookie Policy.
REASONS WE CAN COLLECT AND USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
Contracts. We use your information to give you a quote, carry out a credit check where needed, prepare a storage agreement with you (including StoreReady if you choose it, or checking evidence of your own insurance if you do not), manage your account, take payment, contact you about your storage and recover overdue payments.
Legal obligations. We use your information to comply with the law, for example keeping financial and tax records as required by HM Revenue & Customs.
Legitimate business interests. We use your information to follow up on enquiries, improve our services and website, prevent fraud and keep our facility secure. We operate CCTV to provide a secure storage environment, to check that our storage agreement is being kept to, and to help with any crime or other investigation.
Consent. We use non-essential cookies only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
If you name a person we can contact about your account, we may discuss your account with them as if they were you. You can ask us to remove them at any time.

Insurers and claims handlers may enter your data onto a register of claims shared with other insurers to prevent fraud.
Some of our website tools (Microsoft and Google) may transfer data to the United States. Where this happens, a lawful safeguard is in place, such as the UK-US data bridge. We do not otherwise transfer your personal data outside the UK.
KEEPING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION SECURE
We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal information from being lost, or used or accessed in an unauthorised way, and we limit access to those who need it. We will notify you and the Information Commissioner of a data breach where we are legally required to do so.
